What is ambiguity, and why does it matter?

Ambiguity is what happens when priorities, ownership, or expectations aren't clear enough to act on with confidence — a shifting priority no one flagged, a decision no one confirmed, a next step no one owns. It's common, and it's rarely anyone's fault. But left unaddressed, it has a real cost: time lost to misdirected work, dropped handoffs, unsustainable performance demands, and less candor between people who need to trust each other. This assessment measures how much of that you're currently navigating — and, more importantly, how equipped you already are to handle it.

Three checkpoints

The first two checkpoints record what you perceive. The third — and most important — checkpoint measures how you respond to that environment. This is not an audit of your leader or organization; it's a structured way to understand what surrounds you and the capabilities you already have to navigate it.

Checkpoint 1

My Leader Experience

What clarity or ambiguity do I experience from my direct leader?

Checkpoint 2

My Workplace Experience

What clarity or ambiguity do I experience across my team or organization?

Checkpoint 3

My Personal Ambiguity Capability

How effectively do I navigate the total environment I described? This is the centerpiece of your report.

Ambiguity is inevitable. Confusion is optional. Your results are your own — nothing is shared with an employer or leader unless you choose to generate and send a summary yourself.
