About this role

NC Management (NCM) is a Business Operations, Accounting, and Fractional HR consulting firm partnering with scaling and growth-stage companies to build out their operations and people functions. We're looking for an HR Generalist to support our clients who are primarily in the creator marketing economy serving B2B and SaaS brands, as it scales its team and HR infrastructure.

Job Summary

As an HR Generalist, you'll find yourself wearing multiple hats - balancing the detail-oriented tasks of HR administration with the broader responsibilities of a generalist. It's a role made for someone who thrives in fast-paced settings, enjoys rolling up their sleeves for day-to-day execution while also stepping back to provide guidance, and is motivated by building workplaces that are positive, compliant, and inclusive.

You'll be primarily working with clients in the creator economy / tech space that is actively scaling their team, so experience supporting growing organizations - and comfort working directly with leadership as programs and processes take shape - will serve you well in this role.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities / Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day HR guidance and advice to managers and employees on policies, procedures, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, benefits, and compliance.
  • Perform core HR administrative duties including maintaining accurate employee records and files (physical and digital) in the HRIS, generating HR reports, processing new-hire paperwork, and managing personnel file audits.
  • Support full-cycle recruitment: draft and post job descriptions, screen resumes, schedule interviews, conduct reference checks, prepare offer letters, and coordinate onboarding logistics.
  • Administer employee benefits enrollment/changes, coordinate payroll-related updates with finance/payroll vendors, manage leave of absence requests (FMLA, ADA, state leaves), and ensure timely compliance filings.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries via email, phone, or in-person; triage and escalate issues as needed.
  • Assist with employee relations matters including conflict resolution, documentation of minor investigations, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary actions.
  • Support basic manager coaching — helping people leaders apply HR policy consistently, communicate performance feedback, and navigate day-to-day team issues.
  • Schedule and coordinate training sessions company-wide (e.g., harassment prevention, policy updates) and track completion in the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Support the development, communication, and rollout of new or updated HR policies and programs as the organization grows.
  • Ensure multi-state compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; stay current on legislative changes and advise leadership accordingly.
  • Assist with HR projects such as open enrollment, employee engagement surveys, policy handbook updates, and compliance audits.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive HR information at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the HR team and organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience — Required
  • 2–5 years of progressive HR experience that includes both HR Assistant/administrative duties (record-keeping, benefits administration, onboarding coordination) and generalist/consultative responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, Gusto, BambooHR, ADP) and Google Workspace/Microsoft Office.
  • Experience supporting employees and compliance in a multi-state environment.
  • Experience supporting a company through a period of team growth or scaling.
  • Education and Experience — Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar is a plus.
  • Prior HR experience in a tech, startup, agency, or creator economy environment.
  • Exposure to building or supporting HR programs from the ground up (not just maintaining existing ones).
  • Comfort interacting directly with company leadership/founders in a small or mid-sized organization.

Working Style Fit Many of our client’s leadership team tends to be direct, fast-moving, and decisive - think DISC "Reds" or Enneagram "8s" (Challengers). We're looking for someone who can hold their own with that energy: confident enough to ask clarifying questions, offer a straight answer, and advocate for sound HR practice, without getting steamrolled or taking directness personally. At the same time, you'll need the interpersonal range to build trust with employees who have very different styles day to day.

If you're familiar with DISC, Enneagram, CliftonStrengths, or a similar framework and know how to read a room and flex your communication style accordingly, that's a real plus for this role.

  • Skills and Abilities
  • Solid working knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, wage & hour, anti-discrimination laws, and state-specific regulations).
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and problem-solving skills with a service-oriented and approachable mindset.
  • Proven ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Comfortable advising managers at all levels and building trusted relationships across the organization.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to generate reports and identify trends from HR data.
  • Adaptable and resourceful — able to help build and refine HR processes and programs as needs evolve, rather than working from a fully established playbook
  • Comfortable working async and fully remote, with strong responsiveness in Slack — our clients expect direct, just-in-time, or quick attentiveness, and we strive to hold ourselves to that same standard of service.
