What you’ll do every day

As a Facilities Maintenance Technician, you’ll help keep our campus safe, functional, and welcoming for animals, staff, volunteers, and the public. Your work directly supports lifesaving operations.

You will:

• Assist with maintaining and repairing HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Perform general maintenance and repairs, including carpentry, door hardware, sheetrock repair, and painting
• Help maintain and repair small engines and equipment
• Keep the maintenance shop and work areas clean, organized, and safe
• Assist with unloading delivery trucks
• Work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in extreme heat or cold
• Safely use tools, ladders, and equipment while following all safety procedures
• Work a flexible schedule, including weekends and occasional after-hours or on-call needs
• Travel between locations using company vehicles
• Represent Houston SPCA professionally with staff, volunteers, and the public
• Pitch in on other duties as assigned—because teamwork matters here

You’ll thrive in this position if you bring:

• A high school diploma, GED, or vocational training
• At least 3 years of facilities or commercial maintenance experience, ideally with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing exposure
• Comfort working around animals of all kinds, including livestock
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• The physical ability to:
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds
• Stand for long periods, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks
• Work in confined spaces, low-light conditions, or uneven terrain
• Solid manual dexterity and the ability to safely operate tools and equipment
• A willingness to learn, adapt, and take ownership of your work
