The Graduate Recruitment Coordinator will plan, organize, and implement student recruitment services for the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) graduate programs. The position involves responsibility for mastering and conveying CEC graduate programs information, admission policies, procedures and requirements, and assisting prospective students with clear communication as they evaluate their options and navigate through the application process. The Coordinator is expected to perform duties across all graduate recruitment efforts to include, but not limited to, working directly with prospective students, applicants, faculty and staff, leading recruitment efforts and outreach to achieve enrollment goals determined by CEC, actively engage in recruitment events, make presentations, and coordinate, plan and host recruitment activities.
Applicants must be people-oriented critical thinkers with outstanding judgment interested in working collaboratively with faculty, staff, prospective and current graduate students.
Responsibilities:
Student Recruitment and Outreach
- Manage and lead student recruitment and college-wide yield activities events both in-person and virtual instances;
- Represents CEC graduate programs at college fairs and other recruitment events;
- Lead in-person and virtual prospective student information sessions;
- Coordinate meetings and make presentations about graduate admissions and related topics;
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive recruitment calendar for the office;
- Coordinate and manage graduate students to assist with recruitment activities and community outreach, as needed; and
- Provide high-touch support to prospective students, serving as point of contact for applicants at various stages of the admission funnel.
- Partnership and Engagement
- Coordinates with CEC academic departments, university offices, and current students in the development and implementation of program-level recruitment efforts and yield activities;
- Works with the Director of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment on strategic planning and delivery of recruitment and enrollment initiatives;
- Engages faculty and staff to partner in recruiting efforts;
- Facilitate internationally-targeted recruitment efforts;
- Work with partner institutions to drive student interest and applications to select programs, as identified;
- Keeps informed and current with graduate programs;
- Builds, manages, and leverages relationships with key stakeholders, alumni, current students, and university support offices to support enrollment goals; and
- Remains current on competitive programs and application requirements, admissions policies, and procedures.
Data, Operations, and Administrative Responsibilities:
- Evaluates recruitment expenditures and activity;
- Establishes, tracks, and analyzes event campaign metrics to measure engagement, conversion rates, and enrollment outcomes;
- Manages an allotted recruitment budget that includes funds for travel, event registrations, swag, print material, and catering;
- Collaborates with the Graduate Communications Coordinator for advertising and campaign needs;
- Supervises graduate assistants, student wage, and volunteers as assigned; and
- Other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Demonstrated (typically 2 + years) work experience in admissions, student recruitment, higher education administration, and/or working with graduate programs or high-level customer service;
- Experience managing or administering recruitment-related events and workflow;
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, phone calls, emails and in-person/virtual interaction;
- Applies a customer-oriented/service-oriented approach, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals;
- Effective organizational, planning, and time management skills with strong attention to detail;
- Proactive and critical thinker;
- Be outgoing, goal driven, self-starter, and resourceful;
- Works effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team;
- Successfully multi-tasks, remains organized, problem-solves innovatively and in a timely manner and to completion, and strategically prioritizes resources and tasks;
- Ability to be decisive, take initiative and complete projects and/or assignments with little or no supervision;
- Excellent communication skills with strong ability to speak publicly (both written and verbal), inclusive of email, web-based tools, telephone, in-person and both one-on-one and in large gatherings;
- Ability to master graduate admissions policies and procedures, and possess ability to explain them clearly to others;
- Excellent computer literacy;
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekend hours; and
- Must have a valid driver's license, be able to travel for recruitment events and eligible to use a state vehicle. Potential for travel overseas for recruiting events.
Valid driver's license: must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator’s license that meets all of GMU’s requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason’s Vehicle Use Policy 1411 (https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/). The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver’s licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in related field;
- Experience working in higher education administration, admissions, and student recruitment;
- Experience with university CRM(s); Salesforce is a plus; and
- Ability to work with and analyze data and build reports.
